About Our Historic Country Inn

Celebrating decades of Innkeeping! Smithfield Farm Bed and Breakfast is a special place to vacation. The innkeepers Ruth and Betsy, a mother and daughter team, are committed to making sure that your farm stay will be special for you. Ruth’s son Forrest concentrates on building a viable and highly regarded grass-fed meat operation on the working farm called Smith Meadows Meats. The manor house has been in our family for more than 200 years, and many generations of guests have been welcomed. Our family is pleased to welcome you.

The bicentennial farm is located in the Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, which is easily accessible from the DC metropolitan area. The farm is 3 miles from a major highway, but the short drive transports you to a place of natural beauty and serenity.

The bed and breakfast is a labor of love. For 11 years prior to its opening in 1999, Ruth and her late husband, Ed, spent virtually every weekend restoring the main house, outbuildings and grounds to their present grandeur. The manor house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2016, we celebrated our family’s commitment to continuously farming the land for 200 years.
